The more we talked, the more excited we became about sharing these creative books with readers of all ages, especially her students. She mentioned that she and Dr. Norah Lovell, a professor from the Art department, would be co-teaching a fall freshman honors colloquium at Tulane University called, "The Art of Nature and the Nature of Art." How awesome is that?! More magic happened and on October 29, I'll be speaking to the students there about "The Secret Power of Science and Art in Children’s Nonfiction Picture Books." I love when different disciplines intersect, don't you?! BOOM! I'm excited to share a stack of some of my favorite books and a few ideas about why and how they can have such tremendous impact on readers.
For now, I'm posting the bibliography and suggested reading list here, in case the topic casts its spell on the students and they're as compelled to read these books as we are!
P.S. Please email me with your recommendations for science nonfiction titles that need to be added to the list!
